Scenic Japan from the Water

Koyasan is the center of Shingon Buddhism, an important Buddhist sect which was introduced to Japan about 1200 years ago by Kobo Daishi. Danjo Garan is one of the two most sacred sites in Koyasan.

The distinctive "hummingbird" form and design of the Miike Port was, and remains, a massive landform reaching out into the tidal channel of the eastern Ariake Sea.

The chief shrine of about 500 Itsukushima shrines that are found all over Japan. A World Heritage site. 

The three deities of Itsukushima Shrine were born when Amaterasu Ōmikami (goddess of the sun) and her brother Susanoo-no-mikoto made a pledge on the Celestial Plain, using a jewel and a sword.
