▪Hashima Island
・Hashima Island (known as Gunkanjima): Roughly 19 km southwest of Nagasaki Port that is 1.2km in circuit.
Between the Meiji Era and the Showa Era, this island was a thriving ocean coal mining town and was densely populated. However, it became a deserted island in 1974 after the mine closed. The high concrete buildings that were built in the Taisho Era are considered to be the oldest concrete buildings in Japan and the sights of the many concrete apartment buildings gave way to the name Gunkanjima (meaning battleship island).
It became a registered World Heritage Site in 2015 and many tourists visit every year.
