-“Dogo Onsen Honkan” public bathhouse: 80 minutes by car from Yawatahama Port. A picturesque symbol of Japan’s oldest hot spring. Baths open at 6 a.m.
-Uwajima Castle: 50 minutes by car from Yawatahama Port. Uwajima Castle is one of the last surviving 12 Japanese castles with the original Tenshu (main keep) preserved and is designated as an Important Cultural Property by the Agency of Cultural Affairs.

Beppu Port
-Hells of Beppu: 5 minutes by car from Beppu port. The ‘Hells’ refer to hot springs that have unique colors and characteristics that create a hell-like scenery, with fumes, hot mud, and boiling water gushing out from the land. Chino-ike (bloodbath) Hell (a uniquely red hot spring) and Tatsumaki (tornado) Hell (a frequently erupting geyser) are amongst the most famous.
