Also known as Mutsu no Kuni Ichinomiya, this shrine has a more than 1,200 year history since its founding, and is embraced as the spiritual center of Tohoku region.The view from the shrine, with its full panorama of Matsushima Bay, is a real treat of natural beauty.

・Zuigenji Temple: 7 minute walk from Matsushima tourism pier/The temple, which is the mausoleum of Date Masamune, the great lord of the region in 17th century, is designated as national treasure. The approach to the shrine, lined with cedar trees, is magnificent.

・Godaido Temple: 3 minute walk from Matsushima tourism pier / The temple is the symbolic landmark of Matsushima. Founded by Lord Date Masamune in 1604, the temple is located on a small island. Its approach bridge from the mainland is beautifully decorated with latticework.
